Laser Services

Lasers are a fascinating tool to work with. I am constantly finding new things that it can do, and it amazes me. Lasers are also becoming more common as technology improves. Most lasers are mainly used to do one of two things: cut materials or etch/engrave. Some lasers out now can print and weld. We are not focusing on the specialty lasers right now. We will be focusing more on the basic functions.

Etching

Some etchings take over 10 hours, depending on the detail involved. A more common time is around 4-5 hours of etching time.
Most etchings use a file that has been put through an image process known as “Image Trace” and are commonly in the SVG file format.

Laser software can also etch in “Photo” mode. This is usually best when converted to Greyscale and tweaking the Brightness and Contrast. JPG and even BMP are common formats when using this operation.

All images to be used with your Laser Software should be a common higher DPI (Dots per Square Inch). I mainly stick to 300 DPI unless the client asks for something higher, which has been really rare.

Cutting

The more intricate or the number of cuts involved with a job queue will add time to the cutting process. Really intricate, involved designs can easily take 2-3 hours to cut, and that is just for one sheet of wood.

Pricing

Pricing is almost always on an individual, unique basis.

Below is a rough example and a starting point.

Custom Sheet Cut on 12″x12″ on 1/8th inch or 3 mm Basswood – Design Provided by Customer – $20

Custom Sheet Cut and Finished and Sealed on 12″x12″ on 1/8th inch or 3 mm Basswood – Design Provided by Customer – $30

Other thicknesses of wood can be specified, and the price will be adjusted accordingly.

Metal Business Cards Single Sided – Customer Provided Design – 20 cards for $15

Metal Business Cards Double Sided – Customer Provided Design – 20 cards for $25

Metal Business Cards Add On – If designs are super intricate, this will be added on to the total cost – $15

Metal Business Cards Single Sided – Custom (Simple) Design Included – 20 cards for $40

Metal Business Cards Double Sided – Custom (Simple) Design Included – 20 cards for $50

Metal Business Cards Double Sided – Customer Provided Design – 20 cards for $25
